Overview & Reviews
After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.
- Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
- Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

Bad to the Bone - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By bradmeeks - June 16 - 10:00 amI have enjoyed this truck and plan on keeping it as a second vehicle when I decide to buy another. It rides a little rough, but has good off road performance and is tough.

Reasons to buy from a local dealership.. - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By kevjalittell - May 24 - 10:00 am108k miles and only required maint. 2 recalls handled by dealership with a loaner... Then Boys and girls at Ginn rock! 1 deer assasinated by wife late last year and repairs were less then expected. Truck is still sharp, solid and rattle free. Interior comfort good for all day and all nighters. Rear windows whistle if air is on MAX but not enough to annoy or get fixed. I love my truck

Silverado Z71 - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Megachange - April 12 - 12:53 pmIve had this truck for almost a year and a half. The following is a list of problems: check 4WD light came on, multiple squeaks and rattles in the center console and dash, driver side seatbelt locked, and its pulled to either the left or right side since I got it. This truck also has a ticking noise after its warmed up. Took it to the dealer and was told thats the way the truck was designed. He said something about a exhaust knock. (I DONT recommend Vandergriff Chevrolet in Arlington)

Wouldnt Drive Anything Else - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jay Vara - April 9 - 10:00 amTruck is awesome, Power and Looks blow the competition away! No problems after 23,000 miles. At 3k miles replaced the stock Firestones with BFG KOs, handles exceptionally well, superior in snow, looks great and still 18mpg on highway. Doesnt use a drop of oil, change it every 5k using Mobil 1 Synthetic and K&N high flow filter. Only the best for this motor.

Some flaws, but a great truck - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Mike - March 12 - 6:30 amI bought it used and have 76k miles on it now. Theres a slight rattle in the drivers side door occasionally. Sometimes it has a rough shift from 1st to 2nd, but thats rare. My mechanic said to replace the valve body if it became frequent. Otherwise, its a great truck. More comfortable than any others Ive owned (bucket seats), more power than I really need (5.3L V8) and a great ride for a pick-up. I dont plan on having a car payment for a long time.

Love my 2000 Chevy - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jimj - December 27 - 7:40 pmI have had very little problems with my truck. I use this truck for work and haul my bobcat around. I have hauled my boat over 1200 miles with one trip with this truck. No problems. The engine finally went out at 295,000 but I replaced with a Chevrolet engine that had 93,000 miles and I know it will run 200,000 more for me. I will own nothing else than a Chevrolet. They mean it when they say " built to last ".

My Experience - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By JYoho - July 21 - 10:00 amAfter 2 years and being someone that keeps vehicles a long time, I am ready to unload this one. The squeeks and rattles have won; I am tired of fighting with Chevrolet who tells me to go to the dealer and the dealer who says that they cant do anything about the poor quality. The drivetrain made a lot of noise until the 11th trip to the dealer who finally replaced it. Finally confessed there was a problem with it. The squeek in the leaf springs is an ongoing battle that I am losing. The squeeks and groans in the body flex are common and to the point where I expect them. Cans say that I will buy another GM product.

2 years of ownership - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By iluvmyz71 - July 14 - 2:00 amOverall the truck is a very nice vehicle. Have had a few of the usual problems. The 4 WD switch, a slight knocking, the steering shaft rattling, and the slight driveline clunk. I have been in other makes and they all have there down sides. I regularly dive fords, and would never own one. I use the truck on the farm, for trips down south and soon to haul a couple of twin babies. wouldnt trade it for anything.

Areas needing attention - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Keith Henson - July 9 - 2:00 amIn general, this truck has been great. It has required very few adjustments and the dealer has been great for those that are not design flaws such as the cruise control - downshifts on every interstate hill. Have not seen a cruise control that does not allow minor "slip" of 1-2 MPH. This one doesnt and GM claims it cannot be tuned. Need to hire a good controls engineer.
